My Life in Pics

So I am working on a couple of posts that aren't quite done and I am not a super creative person, so today you all are lucky enough to see my life the past couple of weeks in Instagram pics. How lucky do you feel? I know, I know....very lucky. You're welcome :)

My grandmother, Dede, has been a metermaid in my hometown for decades. She is known and loved by a lot of people in the town. For her 80th birthday my whole family got her her very own bench downtown where she worked. I was home over Thanksgiving and had to get a pic :)

If any of you have a smartphone, you need to get the "I'd Cap That" app. Its HYSTERICAL. It will randomly caption your pictures for you. This is my husband....I just can't help but laugh every time I see this pic. I am sitting here laughing out loud as I type this.....ahahahahahahaha!! So go- go and download I'd Cap That. I promise you won't be disappointed.

My little one, Charlotte all decked out for Thanksgiving in her chevron and  maryjanes. Just love her to pieces.

Her lips. Something about newborn lips are just so darn cute

Just a little leopard and leather. Makes me feel kind of badass when I wear leather. Not really, though. I don't think you can put me and badass in the same sentence!! I loved this look, though!

So there you have it!! I lead quite the exciting life! If you aren't already, follow me on instagram- mommyinheels is the name, obvi.

I Make It Work

Oh hey bloggers. Happy Wednesday. I think I should turn my blog title into something like "A Thousand + Ways to Wear a Military Jacket, Brown Boots or Black Leggings" because lets face it....it seems to be all I have been wearing lately. Part of (or all of) the reason is because my wardrobe is limited because I gained a tad ton of weight while preggers and nothing fits. Aaaahhh!!!

If I have discovered anything about my love for military jackets though its that they can be worn with anything. Anything. Any.Thing. And so can brown boots. Even if it doesn't go, I make it work (as the ever so intelligent Tim Gunn says).

Dress: Francesca's
Tights: Target
Belt: Old Navy
Boots: Target
Purse: Francesca's
Jacket: H & M
Necklace: Stella and Dot
Linking up with The Pleated Poppy  for What I Wore Wednesday!! Yay!

Basic Black

I love how basic a T can be. To me its like a blank canvas. So comfortable and the options are endless for your ensemble when wearing. Its such an easy piece to shift from something like wearing it to work out to tucking it in a pencil skirt, or even with skinnies and cute flats or heels. Definitely a timeless staple.

T: Target
Jacket: H & M (similar)
Jeans: Gap
Shoes: Gap (similar, similar)
Necklace: Stella and Dot
As you can tell from previous posts, I LOVE my leopard flats. I'd wear them all day every day if I could! Something like them, particularly with this black T add a litle something extra to the look along with the statement necklace. Love it.

An Unlikely Combo

Many years ago if you would have told me I would pair brown and black together I would have called you a liar. I couldn't stand to see brown and black together in the same outfit. To me that was a definite faux pas. Now, I love it. I don't know what it is, but its an awesome, unlikely duo!

So I posted last Wednesday (which in blog years is an eternity) about how I was going to attempt to pack lightly for my Thanksgiving getaway to my parents and I totally followed through. Here was my Thanksgiving attire that I put together ahead of time...

And ta-da! I actually packed it and wore it! Yay for me! That never happens. Ever. Never.
Sweater: Target
White T: Target
Leggings: Target
Boots: Target
Necklace: Stella and Dot
Watch: La Mer
Bracelets: Stella and Dot
Shades: Target
Purse: Francesca's Collections
Can you tell I love Target? This outfit turned out to be perfect for the occasion. Leggings so I had room to grow while feasting with my family...casual chic as I like to say.
Isn't it amazing how style evolves over time? Are there any styles or trends that you thought you would never ever try but now love? Pairing brown and black is one for me. Who woulda thought?!?

I Will (not) Pack Lightly for Thanksgiving

So I am headed home for Thanksgiving tomorrow like the rest of the country. I, like most women, am not a light packer. I will be the first to admit that. What if the weather drastically changes and I don't have that one sweater that I wanted to bring? Or what if my mood suddenly changes and I feel like wearing those heels I decided not to pack?

Thats why I just bring it all. There's just one problem. I have to bring along my 4 year old, my 8 week old and ALL of their junk. Diapers, formula, at least two changes of outfits a day for the newborn, baby monitors, strollers. Oh and my husband too. I have to take him along too :) Not to mention we always come back with more than we went with. My parents send us home with food, paper towels, toilet paper and other random things they've so graciously picked up for us.

Soooooo I should probably not pack as much, right? Right. RRRRrrrrriiiiiigggghhhhhtttt. No really though, I should probably not pack as much. I am now making an attempt to plan my outfits ahead and actually follow through with it this time. Like really follow through with it.

One big factor of packing for this trip though is to make sure I pack something that is totally forgiving of all of the food I am going to eat on Thursday. Duh....leggings. This is what I am planning on wearing...

Its really a no brainer. I would consider this a no fail outfit. Check out the outfit details here.
My strategy for packing was to get the most wear out of the staples: jackets (as accessories, obvi), jeans (instead of packing more than one pair), and even shoes.
I wore an outfit similar to this here. I just eliminated the scarf, added my awesome bubble necklace and a pair of heels. Boom. New look. I also like this look too...
I recently purchased a shirt similar to this one at Francesca's. Can't wait to pair it with my militart jacket. How adorbs is this outfit?
I love this shirt- just purchased from Francesca's. I thought the faux fur infinity scarf from Target (although the pic above of it is awful, it really is cute!) would be adorable with it. Outfit details here
With this necklace, you don't need much else! Can't wait to rock it! Outfit details.
Oh and this is what I wearing for the car ride. Its supposed to be about 2 hours but Lord knows it will be longer. Gotta be comfy. Have you seen these new cute sweatshirts at Target?
I will be wearing this with leggings for sure.
Ok so I am so going to try and hold true to these outfits. Seriously. Promise. In fact, I will document it with pics (or at least try to). Ok so its settled. I am packing lightly. I mean, going away for 3 days and only taking 4 pairs of shoes is a big deal...right? Right.
So here goes nothing! Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hopefully you recognize not just tomorrow but every day what you are thankful for.

Double Duty Arm Candy

I recently had the opportunity to try Goody Double Wear hair accessories. They are fabulous for several reasons. They are hair accessories AND they double as gorgeous arm candy.

Looks like your average, every day, gorgeous jewelry, right?

Take a closer look at each...

I am in LOVE with these. I am always looking for jewelry to add to my collection, but this is just even more awesome because its waaaaayyy cuter than walking around with one of my daughter's purple hair gummies (yep, I call them hair gummies). You can actually make it apart of your outfit. What is better than that?

They are $4.99 each and there are plenty more at Target and even more colors.

So go- go snatch up a bunch of these. $4.99 isn't a bad starting price for something that serves double duty!!

What Am I Wearing??

So leggings are my go-to these days. They are just too comfy to not wear. All.The.Time. Allthetime. Plus, they are so versatile. They can be worn dressy, casual, comfy. Hell you can even work out in them, right? I know I have. Here are a few ways I love to wear them...

I love this look for several reasons: leopard, comfy leggings, flowy top. Dressy but casual. Outfit details here

Whats not to love about this whole look. Perfect for a weekend look if you ask me. Check each piece out here
You can also check out how I paired my leggings with my chambray shirt here. Here is how I decided to pair it today though. Leggings, my chambray and boots has been one of my go-to looks for quite some time but now I actually documented it!
A casual day of errands and running into work for a little called for something that was functional without sacrificing fashion...gotta love the chambray.
Here are all the details of the look:
Jacket: Old Navy (similar)
Chambray: Old Navy (similar)
White Tank: Target
Scarf: Target
Hat: Target
Leggings: Target (can you tell I love Target?)
Boots: Target (here)
Bracelets: Stella and Dot (here)
Watch: La Mer (here)
Nail Polish: Essie Chinchilly
Aren't leggings such a perfect staple? How do you wear your leggings?

Gameday Pattern Mixer

So I got to attend yesterday's Baltimore Ravens football game with my husband. We had a great tailgate before with some great friends. Loved it!

I am always torn as to what to wear to sporting events, because typically I don't have sports teams gear or anything. Especially for the Ravens (I am a Steelers fan!)! I am ssooooo not one of those chicks that gets all dolled up like they are heading out for the night, but I will most definitely not just throw on jeans and a hoodie and go.

Fashionably comfy is the way I like to go! Not to mention I was able to mix patterns which I have been loving to do lately. The orange and paisly in the scarf I think compliments the navy blue stripes perfectly. Don't be afraid to mix and match patterns in your closet....what you think might not work just might.

What I Wore Wednesday

Now that I am no longer preggers I am able to wear some of the looks that I created on Polyvore! Yay! Or not "yay!". Because some of my Polyvore looks look better on an invisible person than they do on me. Like this....

I love it. Particularly the shoes. You can read about my quest for these shoes right here.  They make the whole outfit and they make me smile.

Red Skinnies: Old Navy
Chambray: Old Navy
Shoes: Gap
Necklace: Stella and Dot , street vendor
Arm Candy: MK Watch, Stella and Dot, Tiffany's

I Am Voting for La Mer Collections

Did you know that Target is now carrying La Mer watches? I just died. Died!! I *love* La Mer. They are sort of like a cross between an awesome watch and an awesome wrap bracelet. Best of both worlds: accessory and necessity! (at least for me- I feel naked without my watch)

I own a black La Mer that I received as a gift for my 30th birthday from friends and from that point on I knew I was in love! I can't wait to add to my collection.

This is similar to mine....

These watches usually rainge in price from around $90 to close to $200. What is so awesome about them being at Target? They are only $40-$50!!!
You can get them in colors like gold, eggplant, blue, leopard and lime green. Also with chains or "charm story" and without. Gorgeous.
This is the one I am loving at Target. Only $49.99
Check out La Mer Collections. They have such a variety AND you can even customize your own watch. Choose the watch face (gold, silver, rose gold, black), band color and "charm story."

Wear Plaid and Laugh at Yourself

So its Monday. And to boot its the day before my almost 7 week old starts day care. Boo. Not cool. So the solution? Put on a cute outfit and some makeup to give me a little extra kick in my step!

I really am a firm believer that if you feel crappy, just get all dolled up and you will feel better!!

Todays outfit includes the amazing military vest from Old Navy that I seem to see all over the blogging world. If you haven't gotten a chance to get it yet, do it! Its amazing and goes with everything. Love it! I would almost consider it a staple in my closet now!

Here is what I paired it with...

Even though there is a drawstring on the inside that allows you to cinch the waist, I love pairing a belt with it. Gives you a little more definition and makes it not so frumpy.

Let me tell you....I feel like a tool when my husband and I are outside and he is snapping away like I am some model (far from it). I feel even more like one when I am taking the pics of myself. You know what I feel like? A 17 year old girl that stands in front of the mirror, takes a pic of herself making a kissy face then posts it on facebook. Hahahahahaha.  Always good for a laugh :) You always have to be able to laugh at yourself...I sure do.  So on top of looking weird taking pics of myself outside, I am laughing out loud. My neighbors probably think I am cray cray.

Vest: Old Navy
Belt: Gap
Top: Old Navy
Scarf: Target
Flats: Target
Arm Candy: MK watch, Stella & Dot
Shades: Target
Happy Monday...and seriously, if you feel yucky, just add some makeup and a cute outfit and you'll feel better. Plus, laugh at yourself. I always laugh at myself. Always!!
