Get In Shape, Girl

I first want to address the title of this post. Does anyone remember Get In Shape, Girl? If you are a child of the 80's like I am, then some of you might!

Ok so you all know that I have been trying to get this baby weight off for the last several months. I mean, Charlotte is 6 months old and I still have a long way to go. Its so difficult. So difficult. I don't even know where or how to get started, which is so weird for me. Usually I am so on top of this kind of stuff. People always said its harder after your second one. I always though they were full of it- that maybe they were just lazy or something. They were right. It is so. much. harder. I won't get into all the nitty gritty details of how much harder it is (mentally, physically, emotionally), but it just is. It's amazing to me that I am blogging at this point in my life- a time when I, hands down, have never felt this awful about myself. I can honestly say that. And please, I am SO not saying this to get pity or to fish for compliments, I am just being real. Having children, although amazing in so many ways, takes a huge toll on your body. I know it will never be like it was before, but I know it can get to a point where I am happy with it. Its just a matter of getting myself over this awful mental hump that I seem to let block me. I am the first to admit I am my own worst enemy and critic.

With that said, I've never been the type of girl to work out in full hair and makeup. I always seem to miss the memo to get all dolled up when I go to the park to do my running (and by running I mean walking). Do the girls prancing around in cute work out clothes annoy me? Well duh...of course they do! But really....I find that I feel SO much more excited to work out when I am wearing something cute (and functional) as opposed to gross sweatpants and one of my baton twirling t-shirts from 1999. (yep I was a baton twirler....we will save that for a rainy day). While I will never be the girl that looks flawless while working out (I mean really...how can you look flawless when you are grasping for every last breath and your ass is jiggling to high heaven?) I can look put together! :)

Since a lot of my workout clothes BC (Before Charlotte) don't quite fit me I decided to start rebuilding my workout wardrobe. There is some seriously stylish workout gear out there, ladies! Here are a few of my fave outfits I put together, without breaking the bank.

             Workout Gear

Cute gear, right? And so affordable. I am personally fond of the fold over yoga pants. Whats funny is (and formerly preggo ladies, back me up here if you can!), I find myself still wanting to NOT fold over the "fold over" part of yoga pants. I guess I am still so used to pulling that part of my pants up over my belly from being pregnant, and I have grown accustomed to it, that its still comfy to me! Weird? If it is, then I was totally kidding about all of that :)

The great thing about all of these tops is they are breathable. They don't cling, they aren't skin tight, but you don't look frumpy either.

They are the perfect addition to any workout wardrobe. With operation Lose Baby Weight in full swing for me, I somewhat look forward to working out now because I get to wear these cute pieces and look put together (without looking like one of those girls you love to hate in full makeup and hair just to work out).

Hopefully this will give you gals some motivation as it did for me...a little :)

Happy Monday!!

  2. Totally agree with the fold over yoga pants. 10 weeks pregnant with my third and I caught myself pulling it up the other day. Haha. Super nervous about losing the weight since it was so hard after my second one. Love reading your blog!

  4. I totally understand about losing the baby weight. My second son is 17 months and I have not gotten back to my pre-pregnancy weight yet. I work out a lot, but eating right is the hard thing.

  5. I'm feeling it just from this long and miserable winter. I'm pretty much screwed when babies come along. Time to buy some good work-out clothes!

  6. Would you believe me if I said I IMMEDIATELY went back to elementary school when I saw the title of this post?! I'm pretty sure I had a Get In Shape, Girl workout tape, strap-on ankle weights, a long ribbon on a stick (for rhythmic gymnastics?!) and definitely some sweatbands. Life was so simple then!

Losing baby weight is not :( And I don't know if it's just "baby weight" or if it's more "life-because-you-have-kids weight." I started packing on some pounds when Evie started having dedicated lunches, because when she was sitting down to a little meal, I had to stop what I was doing to prepare it, and I'd then make myself a legit lunch, too.

I am in a very weird place emotionally with my body. While I don't think I look "good," I absolutely don't hate myself. I have hated my body in the past, but I don't right at this moment. I'm trusting that I'll give myself a little kick in the pants to get started doing something before it gets to that point again. Hating yourself is no fun when you've got adorable daughters looking up to you!

Good luck, Becky! I think you are beautiful and look just the same that you did at Etown! :)

  8. I'm totally with you, I feel so much more motivated when I have cute clothes on! I totally revamped my exercise attire and now sport black and hot pink everythingggg (so cool, I know)...however, confession, I also never workout or do anything without mascara on!! But that doesn't mean I don't intend to sweat!! :))

  9. Fold over yoga pants are really comfortable, it is really one of my favorite outfits for my workout! For me, workout clothes are very important because you have to be comfortable with what you wear if you want to achieve your goal in having a weight loss. Anyway, thanks for sharing this!!
