Lucky FABB Part 2: Swag and a Whole Lotta Learning

Hey everyone! If you didn't get a chance to read all about my first day of Lucky FABB, you can read about it here. It was such an awesome day that I really didn't think it could get any better, but I was totally wrong!

The second day we were at the Conde Nast building, which houses amazing publications, besides just Lucky Magazine!

Not long after I snapped these photos, Anna Wintour-the Anna Wintour- showed up in the lobby. I look up, I see her, panic, look away, look back at her, stop breathing momentarily, look away, look at her, stop breathing again, and then she hops on the elevator. Whew! Such a highlight from the whole event!

Day two was all about our breakout sessions that we chose when registering for the conference. I was super excited to learn about beauty tips from makeup pros, all about html coding and whatnot (totally boring but something I needed to learn), and hearing from other awesome people like Katia Beauchamp, Birchbox co-founder.

Lunch that day was amazing, to say the least. We were able to chat with Barbie insiders, and learn about the icon herself-her history, her importance, and how she can bring out the best imagination in our little ones! Plus, we got some pretty awesome swag. My plan was to save it all for Christmas for Ella, but really, I was way too excited to play with it myself, so she had some nice surprises waiting for her when when she woke up Saturday morning!

(that beautiful blonde in the pic, who could be Barbie herself, is my dear friend Tera. She has such a genuine heart and soul, and is obviously gorgeous! And has a fab shoe collection!)

The rest of the day was spent in more breakout sessions and of course receiving the coveted swag bag!

What I thought was the most important pieces of information were the following, including some beauty tips too: (and really, some of these can be applied to any aspect of your life, no matter what you do):

1. Connect with other bloggers. Essentially-network. Whether you are a blogger or not, it is in your best interest to connect and network. Seasoned fashion blogger BryanBoy shared this bit of information with us. It's funny because this is something so simple, but so difficult to do. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to do something but it would require other bloggers, and I have not reached out for fear that they will say no. Who cares? The worst they can say is no, right? It helps us all as a blogging community if we all support and connect with each other!

2. Create easy user experience. Mostly all of the "grandma and grandpa" bloggers (as BryanBoy called them) said its tough for readers when they have to "click here to read more" or click on this, then this, then this, just to read the article or blog post. Keep it simple!

3. I am slowly but surely learning this: understand you have a brand. Don't just hop on what everyone else is doing. (this can totally be applied to everyone). I wouldn't consider myself a follower, I can be a leader at times, but I can also be quick to hop on a trend bandwagon. I am my own brand, and I need to realize that!

4. Polite tenacity. I LOVE this. Laura from The New Potato coined that term. You're going to get forgotten about- it's your job to follow up. Plain and simple, right? I need to remember this definitely for my blog, but I can also apply it to my personal life now while I am going through job interviews....polite tenacity, people!

5. Just like friends, "the right 100,000 is better than the wrong million." As easy as it is to fall in the "I only have x amount of followers and they have z amount of followers...why, why why?!?!" you have to remember its not about how many, but the quality of your followers. Make sense? Sort of quality not quantity. It was also mentioned how some people buy followers- as in they hire people that run ghost accounts on different social media channels in order to make their readership look larger. Crappy, right? I am perfectly content right now with my 458 followers!

6. When purchasing foundation, get a shade darker-if applied correctly by buffing it will even out. You can use a kabuki brush for this.

7. Makeup sponges are no good for applying makeup. They absorb more than what goes on your skin!

8. If you are going for a "dewy" look, only apply powder down the center of your face!

9. You can use foundation as your concealer (instead of buying separate concealer). It's matches your foundation so it will work just fine- just use a smaller concealer brush!

10. Lastly, I said it in my first recap but I will say it again: it's cool to be nice.

Whew! What a lot! And that isn't even half of what I learned! This was really one of the best experiences of my life and I totally can't wait to attend again next year. I would love to be able to attend Lucky FABB West in April, but that just might be a little too far out of my price range!

Now if I could just find a place to put all of my awesome swag that I got, I will be good to go. To say I am blessed is certainly an understatement! Excited to try all of my gifts!

Stay tuned over the next few weeks for reviews/how I style products and pieces from my SnapSac tote!

Head on over to see my girl Tera Rae Stephens- she is having an awesome hair product giveaway- gives you amazing volume! Check it out!

Casual Camo

I have mentioned numerous times how much I love a good scarf. Its something that can easily change the look of an outfit, and is definitely an inexpensive way to add to your wardrobe. I love wearing mine with just a plain t shirt, a casual blazer, or with a moto (denim or leather) jacket like I did below.

I guess you could say that my leather jackets are my fall/winter denim jacket. I wear it quite a bit and with a lot of things! It's the perfect accessory for any outfit!

I love that I added this Old Navy moto jacket to my closet, but I am totally in between sizes. Don't you hate when that happens? I sized down, with the hopes that it will fit better when I lose some more weight. For now though, my movement in it is somewhat limited...think Chris Farley in Tommy Boy....."fat guy in a little coat.....fat guy in a little coooaaattt!" Hahahaha yes, I am laughing out loud!!

Lucky FABB Part One

Hey everyone! I am back from my fabulous time in NYC for Lucky Magazine's Lucky FABB (Fashion and Beauty Blogger) conference. It was such a wonderful time, and I was very fortunate to attend. Lucky has managed to develop amazing relationships with bloggers from all over the world, of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds. It's amazing!

The main thing I took away from this conference (besides all of the freakin amazing gifts) was this: it's cool to be nice. Yep- just that. Editor in Chief Eva Chen made that statement the first day, and it just stuck with me. You hear that, mean girls? It's cool to be nice! This can be applied to all aspects of your life whether it be work, family, friends, business, blogging. Plain and simple, its cool to be nice. And let me tell you, it was so awesome and refreshing to hear it from someone with such a huge impact in the fashion world.

Anyway- I arrived on Wednesday just in time to take a stroll through the city-by myself- and I loved every minute of it. I had an event that evening at Refinery Rooftop with Jane Iredale for lip makeovers! I was long overdue for a new lip shade. Typically, I wear tinted chapstick or lip balm on a regular basis. I do wear lipstick but I am terrible at reapplying it!

Shirt: c/o JEG Boutique /// Pants: Target /// Shoes: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's /// Jacket: Gap /// Clutch: c/o Blair Ritchey /// Bracelets: Stella and Dot

It's funny that I am a fashion blogger, going to a fashion event, and the only pictures I really have of my whole outfits are selfie's. HA! I was just so on-the-go that I never really stopped to take pics! (Tabitha- if you are reading this, I am bringing you along next year to be me personal photog, ok?!?) Anyway, I was super excited to sport this outfit. It was the perfect combo of dressy/casual for the kickoff event!

Just a little detail shot from the night. My Blair Ritchey Lulu Foldover and one of the amazing drinks they provided. I can't remember what it was- I just remember it was delicious, there were rose petals in it, and I had several.

While attending the event, I took advantage of having a rep from Jane Iredale there giving me a lip makeover! It was so great! We received the Lip Exfoliator which was delicious. Yes, delicious! It is made of sugar and other oils, so I was able to just lick it from my lips! Then we were able to choose from a couple of different lip combos! I ended up with Puremoist Lipstick and Puregloss Lipgloss

Enjoying my bold red lips with Graceful Glamour Girl and Glory Boon. Definitely have to get used to the red lips...something I am totally not used to wearing!

Once the event ended I met up with a dear friend of mine from high school! We picked up right where we left off! Dinner and drinks were on the agenda for the rest of the night!

Day one of Lucky FABB started bright and early! I was able to spend an extra $30 or so to get the all access pass, and it was totally worth it. Priority seating AND access to the gifting suite. Ummmm....hello gifting suite! Free everything- jewelry, scarves, shoes, perfume, purses! Amazing! Not to mention, All Access passes meant I was able to sit in the front row....super close to all the speakers for the day!

The speakers were really great. It was awesome to hear from bloggers who are doing extremely well for themselves and were once where we are. In some ways, it was kind of hard to relate to them because their success far exceeds mine and other bloggers attending, but still it was nice to know they were all where we currently are!

Erica of P.S. I Made This and Gabi of GabiFresh

Lindsey of Saucy Glossie, Amber of RewardStyle (I chatted with her afterwards and she is SO nice-and has flawless skin!), and Mattias Swenson, Co Founder of Bloglovin

Of course, I don't think I need to do much of an introduction for Eva Chen, Eva Mendes and Kate Bosworth.

Eva Mendes was so real and so casual! Kate was totally soft spoken, but still as sweet as ever! I love that Kate told us how important it is to embrace our differences! It's easy to forget that, isn't it?

She is flawless- flawless, I tell you! And she probably has the nicest ass I have ever seen. Like ever.

Throughout the day I also hit up the gifting suite and other booths that were there are well offering a boat load of free things. I am SO excited to showcase a lot of them on the blog!

Here are a few pics of some of the ladies I spent the day with. It was so great to be in such good company throughout this whole thing!

Meagan from Because of Jackie (so great to finally meet in real life! Yay for blogging friends!) and Haili from All Ze Details- we met that morning and I am so glad we did-she is so sweet!

I will finish my Lucky FABB wrap up on Wednesday....I will chat about day two and all of the awesome goodies we got!!

TGIF with Jeans and a Teacup!!

Happy Friday, everyone! Today is a great day- I am wrapping up my time here in NYC for Lucky FABB, and let me tell you it has been one amazing experience for sure. I will definitely be back next year!

Today, I have Jessica from Jeans and a Teacup! She is dear to me (she totally doesn't know that) because she is literally one of the first blogs are started to follow and took a huge liking to when I first started blogging over a year ago. I just love her dearly, and her style as well! She is effortlessly beautiful- I mean look at her! Plus, she is living the Cali life, which I wouldn't mind!! Hope you enjoy Jessica's blog as much as I do!

Hello Mommy in Heels Readers! I'm Jessica and I blog over at Jeans and a Teacup! I'm so excited to be guest posting for Rebecca while she's in New York for Lucky FABB! I wish I was living on the East Coast right now so I could be there too! I'm actually from Pennsylvania but right now I'm living in California while my husband works in production.  But we'll be moving back to PA in the near future to go work on his parent's farm (and I'm not joking! haha).

Anyway! This is a typical post on my blog! I mainly blog about my personal style but I throw in other fashion related posts from time to time.  I love to shop but also have a budget so I like to remix my clothes as much as possible!

Shirt: American Eagle (similar), Skirt: H&M (cute option) (another option), Shoes: Target (similar), Clutch: Coach Factory, Necklace: Chicnova, Bracelet: Express, Lips: L'Oreal Divine Wine
I wore this ensemble on a dinner date with my husband.  I like to dress up to go out to eat but at the same time I like to be comfortable.  And you can't get more comfortable than a chambray shirt! I got this feathery skirt last year around the holiday season at H&M and I've actually been able to wear it several different ways. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find similar feathery skirts but I think this outfit would still work with any other cream/textured skirt - maybe a jacquard or brocade pattern!  Check out Jeans and a Teacup today to see how I've styled this skirt three other ways! Thanks for stopping by!

Mommyfessions with Laurie from Andiamo

Today's guest blogger is my girl Laurie from Andiamo (Italian for Let's Go). I have loved getting to know her through reading her blog. Anyone who loves Diet Pepsi and sarcasm as much as I do is awesome in my book! Not only is she gorgeous but she has got it together (and her children are so adorable!)! I love how real and relateable she is! If you haven't checked her out yet, you've got to!

Hi there Mommy in Heels readers! I'm Laurie and I hang out over on a teeny tiny corner of the Internet called andiamo. Rebecca and I share a love for fountain sodas of the Diet Pepsi variety and sarcasm.  I used to wear chic shoes like her but I have since opted out in my old age. I digress.

I am a stay-at-home mother to two. I have a daughter, Letty, that is a miniature version of myself (personality wise) and a son, David, who just always makes me smile. Just like his daddy. If you pop on by andiamo you'll pretty much catch up on what I do with those two, and I do a lot. A day at home, although welcome, is a rare occasion in our household.

Now that we have got all that bio silliness out of the way... I am in no way as fabulous as Rebecca. Let's just put that right out there. I prefer leggings and my Hunters to heels. But I am a mommy. And that can be a bit cray at times. I can't really cook, although I try. I'm quite good at organizing and planning, almost to a disgustingly compulsive degree. So when I sat down to figure out what to write today I started thinking about a girlfriend of mine (my mind wanders quickly). A working mama. A hard-working mama. I started thinking about how I get the feeling she feels a bit "unfit" and judged from time to time. That maybe she's not doing something the "right" way. She puts herself down a bit and I no likey. She's a fantastic mom. Wonderful at her job (my hair likes her). She can cook a mean meal. And she's like really sweet and nice and best friends for life! So ladies. As long as your child is fed and clean and safe and loved you are doing a great job. Period. I don't care if your kid hates asparagus or sleeps in your bed every night or doesn't use the potty till she's three (that last one was me). We shouldn't be so hard on each other because you know what? This mommy thing can be pretty tough. We shouldn't make it any tougher on each other.

So I'll give you my Mommy Confessions. Mommyfessions if you will. And oh there are many.

- Letty slept in our bed almost every single night till she was two and a half. Not on purpose.
- I had a glass of red wine before breastfeeding on occasion.
- David eats chicken nuggets for two meals a day. Every. Day.
- Letty used a pacifier until she was two and some change.
- I yell.
- Neither of my kids eat vegetables.
- If our friends are over I'll let both kids go well past their bedtime in hopes it will wear them out and I'll sleep in past 6:30 a.m.
- I don't wash their sippy cups every day. And I let them share.
- I bribe Letty with milkshakes often.
- I let them play with iPads and watch TV. For more than 15 minutes a day.
- Sometimes they wear clothes that are too small for them.
- I let Letty put David in a tutu.
- I never remember to bring their hats.
- I'll give my kid any food if it means they will be quiet.

Ding ding! The Mother of the Year Award goes to.... Me! And you know what? I'll wear my Bad Mommy Badge proudly because I am NOT really. You know me. I'm just a "rule" breaker.

Thank you so much Rebecca for letting me take over a bit of your space today! Enjoy Lucky FABB and I'm sure everyone else is just as excited as I am to hear (read) all about it.

A Lovely Living

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I am off to NYC for Lucky FABB! To say I am excited is a huge understatement! I have some wonderful ladies filling in for me for the rest of the week! To keep up on my adventures in NYC you can follow me on instagram and twitter!! See you back here Monday...I will be off enjoying a lovely living in NYC ;)

Today, my long time friend, Marisa from A Lovely Living is guest blogging for me! Ever since we have been friends, all the way back in the 90's (hellooooo does that make me feel old!), she has always been super stylish, never missing a beat (or should I say trend)! Her blog is the perfect combo of fashion, home decor, and sweet recipes! You could say she is the modern day June Cleaver, Martha Stewart and Rachel Zoe all rolled into one! I'm super excited for you all to get to know her as I have over the years!

Hi Everyone! I'm Marisa from A Lovely Living and I'm quite flattered to be guest posting for Becky while she's off enjoying her trip to NYC! Becky and I go the whole way back to high school and we've managed to keep in touch all of these years. During our high school years I tagged along on a few bus trips that her parents arranged to visit NYC. Those trips could very well have been the start of our obsession with fashion. We've certainly come a long way!

Becky has always been an inspiration to me, so when she started blogging I couldn't have been happier to be able to receive her advice on a daily basis. It turns out we still have similar taste which turns up over and over in pieces that we both own.

You probably recognize this Gap moto jacket from Becky's posts and I think I get almost as much wear out of mine (see post here). We also happened to both be sporting this jacket when I linked up with her monthly Link-Up for styling a white t-shirt. I think we were both laughing the entire day. What are the chances??

I've gained so many useful tips from Becky during her time blogging. One in particular that reminds me of her daily is by using Bare Minerals Well-Rested Eye Brightener. She wrote about this product in one of her first posts and I am so thankful that she did because it is amazing! If you care to see a few of my latest beauty favs, which include those pictured below, click here.
guestpost2Thanks to Becky, I was also introduced to Blair Ritchey, her college friend and incredibly talented handbag designer. I currently own her Mini Lulu Foldover and I can't wait to invest in more of her collection. Check out one of the outfits I paired it with here.

Thanks for taking the time to read and feel to free to stop by A Lovely Living when you have a chance! Fashion is big part of my blog, but I also enjoy sharing recipes I've tried (I have quite the sweet tooth!) as well as the occasional beauty and decorating tips. Essentially ways to make your living lovely Have a great day!

The Perfect Fall Puffer Vest

There is nothing that says fall like a good puffer vest. They are perfectly casual to toss on over jeans and a sweatshirt, but can add a little bit of chic to an otherwise bland outfit.

As soon as I saw this vest from Gap I knew I had to have it for fall! I've already worn it several times on our cooler Pennsylvania days! While taking my pictures, Tabitha said I looked like a college student, or maybe my outfit at least! I don't even think I got this dressed up in my college days...those days were reserved for sweatpants, hoodies and comfort!

This outfit was the perfect outfit for a casual day of shopping! Sporting my Matty M leggings and a chevron tunic, I was good to go!

Outfit Details:
