The Man Behind the Blog

Although I am the one who writes this blog, wears the clothes, decides what I write about, I totally couldn't do it without my husband, Ryan. He is just as much a part of this little blog of mine as I am!

I bounce ideas off of him (even if 90% of the time he doesn't get what I am talking about- link ups, giveaways, feature posts), vent to him, and most importantly, he is my photographer. This blog would probably not exist or be half as good as it is (it is good, right?!?! RIGHT?!?!) if it weren't for him!

So I thought I would dedicate today's post to the Man Behind the Blog. Anything and everything about him, and why he pretty much rocks!

Not only is he the sweetest, kindest, giving, most hardworking husband there is, he is also hysterical. I laugh until it hurts with him!

He is also known to thrown it down on the dance floor a time or two. Dance off's are pretty much his thing, and he doesn't discriminate against age! You're only five? Who cares...bring it!

He also has a tendency to make it difficult to get a good picture. Young at heart I guess??

Which usually result in me giving him this look....and him mocking me :)

He is also an amazing Daddy, and isn't afraid to get fancy with his girls (he doesn't really have a choice, does he?). Oh and I also rope him into being a model for a few blog posts here and there.

Now the fun part...here's a little more about him that he is SO excited to share with you all:

Favorite Food: Seafood in general

Favorite Drink: Gatorade I guess?

Favorite TV Show: *giggles* Uhhhh Flipping Out- love that show!

Favorite thing about blogging: The pictures! (said with a "DUH!?!" attitude)

Least Favorite thing about blogging: The pictures! (again, said with a "DUH!?!" attitude)

First thought when you hear "we have to take blog pics today" Of course we do.

Closet Staple: My closet staple? As long as I have something to cover my body I am pretty good.

Pet Peeves: Oh I've got pet peeves. I don't know what they are, but I got 'em. Bad drivers? Stupid questions?

Fashion Pet Peeve: I think you know the answer to that. People wearing two of the same color. (I believe he specifically means a Canadian Tuxedo). The only time you should be wearing the same color is when you are wearing a suit. Just ask Tim Gunn, he will tell you.

Best part of people watching: Whats the best part? It makes you feel good about yourself because everybody looks like a ridiculous....wait. I don't want to offend anybody.

Best part about being a blogger's husband: Stuff like this and seeing you happy. And I don't have to buy you as much stuff.

Worst part about being a blogger's husband: You blog after the kids go to bed so I usually just fall asleep on the couch.

If you could choose anyone, dead or alive to hang out with who would it be: Zac Efron (This is a total mockery of my obsession with him).

Why is your wife so awesome: Why is my wife so awesome? Hmmmmmmm.....cause she's my best friend! She makes me laugh, smile, she takes care of our kids. Just an all around great person.

Why are you so awesome: Why am I so awesome? Have you SEEN my pictures?

Have you ever held a crying baby while taking pictures? (this one is for you, Jack) No I haven't. We usually leave them in the car (we are right next to the car), although there have been crying/screaming children in the background while taking pictures!

And there you have it. The man that keeps me going in this world :)

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

So ends another week of my Nutrisystem diet. I am definitely still overall enjoying it, and definitely losing! I have lost a total of 8 pounds! Loving that! I have done so many diets, and taken diet pills that it feels weird (in a totally good way) to be losing weight slowly. The diets I have tried in the past have been super rapid with the weight loss. Which, we all know how those worked out- they didn't! Or else I wouldn't be here doing this, now would I? It feels good to be losing slow but steady. It sort of feels like it is more permanent.

I think what I have found to be the most challenging the past week, is that I got a taste of what my weeks and months ahead will be like. My store is opening this Thursday, and I have been there every day for the past week or so getting it ready. Going from not really having to leave the house if I didn't want to, to leaving every day was an adjustment.

It was hard to remember to get my PowerFuel and SmartCarb snacks ready, or I just didn't allow enough time to get them ready, so there were a couple of days where I didn't have my snacks, and it pretty much sucked! By the time dinner rolled around I wanted to eat and eat. But I didn't! So, knowing that my schedule is going to drastically change, I either need to get the next day's snacks (and even meals) all set the night before, or just allow myself some more time in the morning before I have to leave.

I also did have some meals that I didn't really care for at all. I am not a fan of some cooked veggies or meatloaf, but I did at least give them a try! In those situations I just picked another meal. Since there has been a time or two here and there where I have eaten out (don't worry, I made the right meal choices while eating out!), I had a few extra to choose from.

Now onto something small that motivates me to want to work out. Workout clothes are awesome motivators, but sneakers are even better! I am sure I am not alone in this one- little things like this just make me want to lace up and work out!! Plus, with all of the fun colors that are available now for sneakers it makes wearing them even better! Here are a few that I particularly love!!

My Last Weekend of Freedom

The past weekend was a busy one. I tried to savor it, knowing that from this weekend forward they will be busy, busy- but I couldn't be more excited! I spent the day at the store with my husband and in laws tagging and hanging my merchandise while they put the finishing touches on everything!

You see, this Thursday, my storefront for Elizabeth & West opens. I will spend my Saturdays (as well as Tues-Fri) there pretty much living my dream. It will make for packed weekends though! But I couldn't be more excited. Like, beside myself with excitement. Eeeeeeeekkkk!

I can't wait to meet customers, fill inventory, decorate and redecorate my window, enjoy visits from my husband and girls after they visit the market a few doors down the block. This, to me, is the life. Of course, I will miss the lazy Saturdays with my family, but knowing I won't have the whole day with them will make me enjoy and savor the time I have with them for sure!!

Even though I was doing tedious work at the store, I wanted to be presentable, as people have been popping in the store all week wondering when I will be opening. This dress was the perfect "presentable but comfy" I was looking for! To say I love this dress is an understatement. I think what I love most about it is the length in the back. An extra coverage I have on my rear is great in my book! I didn't have to worry bending over or anything! Love it. In fact, I love it so much, I also got it in this print. Cannot wait for it to make its blog appearance!

And, I am still on the fence with the whole Panama Hat thing. I feel like it is kind of Amish looking (not that that's a bad thing!), or that it just looks weird on me. It's growing on me, but totally not sold on it. I feel way more comfortable in my fedora hats!

Hope you all had a great weekend! What a great week ahead! If you hear random screams from time to time that will probably be me screaming with excitement!!!!! Yay, yay, yay!!!

The Perfect Pineapple

How can you not love a shirt with a pineapple on it? I mean really. Everything about it is awesome! The style, comfort-totally awesome.

While I wasn't a huge fan of everything in the Peter Som for DesigNation collection, the pineapple tank totally called my name. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly how I wanted to style it, and knew there were several different ways I could and would wear it, which I try to do with my purchases.

My first thought was to pair it with my favorite boyfriend jeans-everything goes with boyfriend jeans!

As much as I love heels, I can't wait to dress the shirt down a bit. I have developed quite an obsession with sneakers (not like running sneakers), so of course I will most definitely be wearing the pineapple tank with my new fave leopard slip ons. My orange anorak jacket is the perfect pop of color for the look (and its also good for a rainy day).

Hope you all have a great weekend! See you back here next week! Less than one week until my storefront for Elizabeth & West opens! I am freaking out!!! But in a good way, of course!!

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

If there is one thing I have learned over the years it is how much I appreciate my mother, how much I under-appreciated her so much growing up (like most kids do...I am sure mine will too!) and how important Mother's Day is. It essentially took me growing up and becoming a mother myself, but boy is it important, and is it a hard job! Yes, I feel appreciated every day, but it is certainly nice to have one day dedicated to my first and most important job, being a Mommy. It's nice to just stop and let those Mothers in your life know how awesome they are.

My husband always does a great job of making the day special. He is the type of guy who can pick something out for me without my input, and it is perfect. You bet I drop hints from time to time, but it is usually something I will mention in passing that I like that he will remember for months and surprise me with! Yep...I am one lucky gal! All of that aside though, you better believe I window shop and online shop a lot! My wish list is ongoing, and going, and going!!

Here are a few things that I would love, and would be perfect for any Mother, whether it be your own, your mother in law, or you best friend!

A lot of these items are varying price ranges, depending on whether you go all out for Mother's Day or if it's just something you do little gifts for. I certainly wouldn't be upset if all of these goodies were stuffed inside the Forever 21 tote (since I already have the Blair Ritchey tote)! FYI- I am a size 7 shoe...if anyone feels the need, and my initials are RWA. Again, if anyone gets the urge!

Don't forget all of the Mommy's on Mother's Day! It's the hardest job in the world, for sure! What better way to show your appreciation than with a cute pair of shoes...or sunglasses....or a new purse!

Dressed Down Easter

I had an idea of what I wanted to wear for Easter. You know, a nice, springy dress or something like that. Then I was just too tired. Too tired to be dressed up in a fancy dress or anything like that. So, comfort and being casual won this time around. We spent the afternoon at my in laws house, so I didn't feel the need to be super dressed up!

I love these pants from Old Navy, not only because they are comfortable, but because I can totally dress them up or down (and because I am wearing a size smaller than I was in this post....GO ME.). I can't wait to wear these with my plain white tee (again) and my Chuck's! You all know how much I love versatile pieces!

These Old Navy D'Orsay flats (in sand) were such a great purchase. Because of the light, neutral color they go with so much. Just be careful, because they show the slightest bit of dirt!

Before I end the post, I have to send some special anniversary love to my husband! Today we will celebrate our 9 year wedding anniversary! Can't believe its been 9 years since the best day of my life!! I would do it all over again, in a heartbeat!!

Nutrisystem Check In:Moving Right Along!

Ok so its time to check in again with you all, and I am excited that I lost another 2.5 pounds! That means I am down 7.5 lbs so far! While I know every week isn't going to be this successful, I am thankful that I have started out doing well. It is certainly great motivation for me!

This week was another great one, mainly because I was able to add in more snacks and also dessert! Really, you had me at dessert!

Here is how it works:

In between breakfast and lunch, and then lunch and dinner, you are to add two snacks- a PowerFuel and a SmartCarb. Obviously, to curb your hunger, keep your metabolism going, etc. I was surprised at how long the list was of things I could eat. Here is a breakdown for you:

PowerFuel:  they consist of high quality proteins that contain essential amino acids and healthy fats from nuts. It takes longer for your body to digest these foods, so they help you stay satisfied. PowerFuels also provide an excellent source of protein to help boost your body.

SmartCarb: they are a specific group of carbohydrates that are nutrient-rich and measure “low” on the Glycemic Index. These carbs are digested more slowly, keeping you feeling fuller longer while promoting good health by delivering vitamins, minerals, fiber and other important nutrients.

Here are just a few (really...just a few. The list is SO long) of the items you can have for your PowerFuel and SmartCarb snacks!

You can also have three "extras" throughout the day. These are no- or low-calorie optional add-ins that you can use to spice up your meal plan or satisfy a craving. These extras are unlimited when less than 10 calories, but you should still keep items between 10 and 35 calories per serving limited to 3 servings a day. Just because they are free doesn't mean you can consume whatever you want of them! Some of the extras include ketchup, avocado, salad dressing, sunflower seeds, peppers, mayo, diet soda and garlic! The last two are my faves!

Vegetables are also important for the diet. You should incorporate four servings of these throughout the day on this diet- I love having some carrots, broccoli and cucumbers with a little drizzle of fat free salad dressing with my lunch! It allows my lunch to be more filling, and I am getting my serving of vegetables!

I think one big misconception I had with Nutrisystem before I researched the diet was that you had to eat their food and only their food. Obviously that is not the case. I love that! I do find myself sticking with the same PowerFuels and SmartCarbs, but it is nice to know I have a variety waiting for me if I want.

I know last week I had said I would share with you some quick workout tips, but I think I am going to push that off for another week. I think I am still trying to get in my groove and find what is working and what isn't working for me as far as workouts and whatnot. But no need to worry! I promise I will share them all with you, and even some super cute workout gear I will be adding to my closet. Call my crazy, but something about having cute, new workout clothes makes me even more motivated!

What's your motivation?!?!

The Maxi is Back

The maxi never really left, but it was put on hold for a few months while we endured a pretty terrible winter. Year after year, the feeling is exactly the same, when I slip on one of my maxi dresses for the first time of the season-elation. Excitement. Relief (that its finally warm). It really never gets old, does it? I think the maxi would be my outfit of choice to wear the rest of my life if I had to choose one thing-that's how much I love a good maxi.

This past weekend, York had a Go Green in the City festival, which was to highlight businesses that were green and to celebrate Earth Day coming up this week. This was the sixth year for the festival and was greatly attended! There was even an awesome write up about it that I was fortunate enough to be mentioned in!

I was fortunate enough to set up a table and some garment racks in front of my store, just to give people a little preview of what I will be selling, and to serve as a little "hey here I am!" I couldn't have been more pleased at the turnout and it makes me THAT much more excited for when the store opens!

I wore this maxi dress for the day, knowing that I would be standing most of the time- I wanted to be comfortable and not feel restricted so for me it was the only choice! (PS- I can't wait until this stupid Bells Palsy leaves for good so I don't have to look like a frigid bitch in all of my photos!)

Outfit Details:
Dress: Dress Up Boutique /// Jacket: Gap (similar) /// Wedges: Target (old) /// Bag: Target /// Bracelets: Stella and Dot /// Sunglasses: Steve Madden via TJ MAXX /// Necklace: Brin and Bell

I hope you all had a great weekend and a wonderful Easter! Loved spending time with my family- so thankful how giving they are of their time and love!
