What She Wears: Stars and Stripes

Talk about my fashion evolving over the years. Several years ago I wouldn't be caught dead in wearing red, white and blue on the Fourth of July. To me it just seemed so tacky and just the complete opposite of what being fashionable encompassed!

Fast forward to now, and I have been sort of planning what I am going to be wearing for a few weeks! There is certainly a classy, not over the top way to incorporate the holiday into your attire! I knew my white denim vest would be a piece of the look- I sort of planned my whole outfit around it!

For this month's What She Wears, Meagan, Brandi, Dawnelle, Jalynn and I thought it would be totally appropriate and fitting to do red, white and blue! I love to see how fellow fashion lovers wear these colors for the holiday!

Show us what your red, white and blue style is and link up below! Stop by the other blogs, say hey, get some style inspiration and make friends! Next week, check back to see who we all chose as our favorite! (I know, I totally dropped the ball on this one last month)! We will also share/remind you what next months' theme will be!

Have a great day, ladies! Can't wait to see what you all come up with!!

Ain't Nobody Got Time for That

Those of you that are Mommy's know how hard it is to find time for yourself, am I right? Any time I can cut corners (without it being sloppy) I am all for. Time just seems to escape pretty quickly and before you know it you were supposed to be out the door twenty minutes ago! Ok, so maybe that extra ten minutes of sleep (instead of doing a full face of makeup) wasn't worth it?!?

Even though summertime is typically more relaxed for most people, for my house, its just as busy as the school year. Out the door by 8:00 to drop Ella off at camp and Charlotte at daycare, squeeze in any errands that have to be run (that don't include groceries) before I have to be at the store by 10:00. Yikes!

When I say I welcome cutting corners sometimes (some people call them "life hacks"), I am totally serious. Like for instance, if I am wearing a dress that goes to my knees, I will only shave from the knee down. I mean really, who has time in the morning to shave the WHOLE leg? Both of them. Not this girl. Doing little shortcuts in the morning are things that I thrive on- brushing my teeth while in the shower, leaving my face mask on while I am doing my hair/getting dressed (for those mornings I really oversleep and don't have time to shower. It's not gross- you know you have those mornings).

Some "life hacks" or summertime hacks that I am particularly fond of, especially to help me get through my crazy, busy, rushed mornings:

~Freezing fruit and tossing it in my water bottle in the morning. It adds some extra flavor!
~I always have a box of those little flavor packets for water at work, and at home of course. Some mornings I forget the frozen fruit, and I am an awful plain water drinker, so after I get tired of drinking the plain water I will use one of my flavor packets. They aren't as good as the real deal, but it saves time, people!!
~I hate ironing. It has never been something I do. But I will use my straightener to iron parts of my clothes that are super wrinkled. Quick and really easy!
~Like I mentioned before, because I dislike shaving so much, I love to use Veet. It saves time. I can do it while I am getting ready. Lather on the cream, let it set while I am brushing my teeth, doing my makeup, then remove it. It also moisturizes my legs (and is great for sensitive skin), so it saves me from having to lotion my legs. Win win, total time saver! (how smooth it makes my legs feel and look is a bonus!) Plus, it lasts longer and keeps my legs smoother than just shaving- also a time saver!

What are some of your time saving, life saving hacks that you swear by?

Veet® helps you feel smooth all summer long.

Golden Pineapple and Small Victories

So it almost marks three months of me doing Nutrisystem. I am not going to lie, it has definitely been challenging. I have found the evenings to be more of a challenge than during the day. Most likely because I take my food with me to work during the day. I don't have the temptation of what the rest of my family is eating or what is in the pantry. Some days are harder than others, but I think what helps is that the Nutrisystem food actually tastes good and has flavor!

Really though, what diet/lifestyle change isn't hard? It has been a slow process to get this weight off as I have heard from a lot of people- the older you get, after you have children, etc. For me, this was so true! After I had Ella, the baby weight (which was a lot) was all gone by the time she was eleven months. Charlotte will be two in September and I still have about half of the baby weight (which was even more than with Ella...yuck) to lose!

But- I have made progress, and am proud at my start! As I approach the 20 pound mark, it feels good to wear jeans (like the ones I am wearing) and not have them cutting my circulation off! Crazy to think that I actually wore these almost twenty pounds heavier....gross!! Little things like that though, the small victories (like my jeans fitting better on me) are what makes the journey worth while!!

Vest: Old Navy (similar) /// Shirt: Old Navy /// Jeans: Old Navy /// Shoes: Go Jane /// Clutch: c/o Blair Ritchey (similar) /// Necklaces: Stella and Dot Engraveables /// Bracelets: Target, Target /// Watch: La Mer Collections (similar)

Here's to small victories and the little things that keep me going! Have a great weekend!

I am an official #NSNation Blogger and have received Nutrisystem for free in exchange for my honest opinion of the program. All opinions and thoughts expressed are my own and 100% honest.

Wear it Four Ways: Sleeveless Chambray

I love a classic chambray. It is such a versatile piece and is definitely something that gets rotated on the regular in my closet. For most, during the warmer months, it's sometimes hard to sport a long sleeved button up (except I keep my store pretty cold, so I can get away with it).

A sleeveless chambray is something that is still as classic as your basic one, with a twist. I think the fact that it's sleeveless definitely gives it more of a casual vibe, and is perfectly lightweight for the hot, sticky summer months!

I found this adorable Converse option and styled it four ways. In my book, they are all pretty casual, but can easily be worn for errand running, playground visits, coffee dates, girls night out or date nights!

I love the idea of pairing the top with a shorter, flirty skirt. I think the print of the skirt paired with the basic chambray compliment each other so well! I was also even tempted to pair the Converse with this outfit. I thought it would look so cute!

White denim is great this time of year. For me, white denim is something that I have to wear carefully. Two children and anything white just don't go well together! This outfit can be dressed up with these cute sandals or dressed down with a cute pair of Keds.

I love seeing a chambray styled over a maxi. wearing it unbuttoned and knotted is just so adorable! I would even toss a fedora or panama hat on to complete the look!

Oh how I love these shorts! If only I had the legs to wear shorts like these, or a spray tan 24/7 to make my legs look the kind of amazing required for shorts like this!

I can't wait to add this shirt to my closet and get a ton of wear out of it for all of the hot summer days ahead!

Cherished Friendships and a Giveaway!!

Every once in a while, someone comes along in your life, and you just know you are immediately grateful for them. That's sort of how it is with Tabitha, the mastermind behind the amazingly honest blog Raising Up Arrows, and the handmade line Violet & Burke.

Just a little back story, Tabitha and I met freshman year at Elizabethtown College. We were in the same (awful) freshman seminar class. She eventually transferred out, and fast forward almost ten years, we were able to reconnect on facebook after realizing we lived in the same area!

I was fortunate enough that she is really into photography, so we were able to connect even more through my blog (she would use her talent to take my blog pictures). Being able to meet once a week for a few hours was such a great time to just enjoy each other's company, share some laughs, and our trials, tribulations and triumphs as a Mommy. I've grown to really cherish our friendship- I know her kindness is genuine, her thoughtfulness is true, and not to mention I can count on her to pray for me and with me when I need it.

Since reconnecting, I have known how talented she is. How many people can look at an old leather jacket and think "I could totally turn that into baby moccasins or a really great leather skirt." I know I certainly couldn't. When the time came for me to take my online store to an actual brick and mortar, I knew I wanted her handmade work to sell. It's obvious each piece is carefully made with a whole lot of heart and even more soul.

I love that, if even a little, I am able to help Tabitha fulfill her passion (and she is helping me fulfill mine as well). Being able to support a small, handmade business that is run by someone who is so passionate and kind, is what makes this all worth it.

One of my favorite items from her Violet & Burke line is her most recent addition- her infinity scarves (in addition to baby mocs, and baby rompers). She hand makes these from 100% organic cotton. Mind you, she makes all of this with two children under the age of 3. Usually while they nap. I don't know about you, but when my kids are napping, I am too! (and her skin is always glowing...I don't know how she does it!)

Lucky for you all, Tabitha is kind enough to host a giveaway, and give you all a chance to win one of her infinity scarves, in either your choice of the La Venta print (which I am wearing) or the Abalone Cove print.

Check out her instagram to see what other items she offers and to connect with her for special orders and good luck!

The Perfect Summer Maxi

Maxi dresses and summer go together like peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, am I right? So, when one comes along that is the has the best print and is comfortable, I can't resist it.

Like I've said so many times before, it's an instant outfit. One that doesn't require a ton of thought, but still has versatility!

If you are taking a vacation this summer, this would be the perfect piece to toss in your suitcase. Such a great day to night transition piece, plus it's something that doesn't take a lot of room!
