In case you were wondering, I don't. Nope. I am just your average girl who has to do her own makeup every day. Or at least on the days that I actually do my makeup!
It's always fun to try and recreate their red carpet looks, and adapt them to my every day life.
Kerry Washington's makeup looked absolutely stunning! I've loved her since Save the Last Dance, and when she was engaged to David Moscow (I was a huge fan on his when I was younger!). To me, she always nails it, and just has a way about her- classic, chic, and so put together.
Kerry's makeup artist Carola Gonzales used her Mary Katrancou dress as inspiration for her overall look. Carola wanted to accentuate her eyes with a modern twist. To add the "modern twist" to Kerry's look, Gonzales layered black eyeliner with shimmer gray eye shadow. Her lips were kept sheer to compliment the dress, but not compete with the eye makeup.
Here is a breakdown of what was used to create Kerry's red carpet look:
Kerry's skin was first prepped with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisturizer. This is great to use during the winter months-it quenches the skin without leaving the makeup looking oily.
Once her skin was prepped, Carola used Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black to line the outer area of the eye, along the lash line. She also lined the inner rim of the lower lash line. To add some shimmer, Kerry's eyeliner was layered with the new Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear eye shadow from the Smoky Steel Palette.
To complete the eyes, a few coats of Neutrogena Healthy Lengths in Carbon Black was applied to Kerry's lashes.
To add the perfect combination of glow and color, Carola added Neutrogena Healthy Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Posie Glow. It was applied to the apples of Kerry's cheeks in a upward motion towards her temples.
Rounding out Kerry's makeup, was a vibrant, sheer berry shade to compliment the fuchsia shade of the dress. Carola used Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Bright Berry.
To prep her hair, stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew used Neutrogena Triple Repair Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner. To protect her hair from heat and give it shine, Takisha left a dime sized amount of Triple Repair Fortifying Leave-In Treatment. She then blew her hair out with a comb attachment blow dryer, but left some texture in her hair. Certain pieces of her hair were curled with a 1 inch barrel curling iron. Finally, her hair was teased on top and in the center, then took her hair and pulled it into a messy chic bun. Her hair went well with the Mary Katrancou Dress and it was a great way to show her amazing cheekbones and it's a fresh look on her.
What I love about all of this, is how easy it sounds, and how affordable it all is. I typically associate any sort of red carpet look with the unattainable-can't afford it, can't find it anywhere. That's not the case with Kerry's look, which is kind of refreshing! I love that I can head to Walgreens, grab the items, and attempt (yes, attempt!) the red carpet look myself. Whether or not it actually looks like Kerry's look is another story! Haha!
Neutrogena and Walgreens are kind enough to give away a $50 gift card to Walgreen's so you can purchase everything that was used on Kerry to recreate your own red carpet look!! How awesome is that? Enter below, and good luck!
