Life Lately

As much as I love styling outfits and taking pictures for this blog, sometimes it feels good to just have a little bit of a breather. So that's what today is. A breather.

No worries, next week will be full out outfits and post Halloween makeup removal (this is my first year in I don't know how long actually going full on with my makeup...we shall see how well it turns out!)

Anyway, I thought I would fill you in on life lately. I always loves these types of posts mainly because I am super nosy. To me, its the equivalent to peeking in someone's window (which I wouldn't do that in real life...that's just creepy).

It's always an adventure when I have to shoot for the blog! The majority of the time, we are able to shoot in places where the girls can get out, run around, and play. Sometimes we shoot in places where we are next to the car, so we just let them hang out in the car. We have mastered getting the pictures done relatively quickly because of having the girls, though! It never fails though, that the girls always want to get in on the action whether it be posing like me, or trying to take pictures themselves.

I could dedicate a whole blog post on blooper pictures with the girls and stuff that is said during blog photo shoots!

The girls got binoculars from my parents a few months ago and they love playing with them. Ella has developed a fascination with the solar system over the last couple of months, and wanted to use the binoculars the other night to "watch the moon rise." Ella was amazed, and Charlotte...well she had no clue what she was looking at/for and just repeated everything Big Sis said!

The Halloween parade was this past Sunday, and it was the perfect day for it! The girls were super excited, especially to wear their costumes! Ella is now at the stage where she is starting to like shows that have actual people in them and aren't cartoons. The same goes for movies. She loved Descendants when it came out and immediately requested to be Mal for Halloween (minus the purple hair...I refused to spend money on a purple wig and she didn't want to spray her hair purple). Charlotte on the other hand wanted to be a bunch of different things, and settled on Belle. You're probably thinking "that doesn't look like Belle!" You're right. It's not. It's her Halloween costume from last year that she insisted on wearing. She also plans on wearing this costume to her school party and for trick or treating. So much for the brand new Belle costume! And in typical Charlotte fashion, she's doing her own thing for the photo!

This past Tuesday Ryan and I celebrated 15 years together. 15 years! Crazy to think how young we were when we met and fell in love. I remember the night we dubbed our "anniversary" date like it was yesterday. Well bits and pieces of it. I was drunk, he was sober because he had the biggest soccer game of the season the next day. It seemed perfectly logical to make my room mate call him when we got back to our dorm room in the middle of the night (on an actual phone, because we still had actual phones back then). He must have really been smitten, because he came over in the middle of the night sleepy and sober to hold the hair back of a drunk girl while she puked. Romantic, isn't it? He stuck around, I brushed my teeth, we kissed, and I realized he had to be mine.

I also can't neglect the fact that he looked pretty darn good without a shirt on too. A few days before the drunken night, in true mature, teenager fashion, my room mate and I knew he liked me. He called one afternoon asking if we had any bread he could borrow. For some odd reason, we actually did have bread (I honestly think it was one of the only times my whole college career I bought bread). We wanted to obviously take advantage of a boy who liked me and was trying anything and everything to woo me, so we told him he could have some if he showed up with no shirt on. A few minutes later, a knock on the door, and a topless Ryan, the bread was his.

And lastly, because there are always outfits worth documenting that don't make it to the blog!

Blanketed in Plaid

We all know by now that blanket scarves are the bomb, and pretty much a staple in every basic girls fall wardrobe. Trendiness aside, they are actually pretty functional and not only do a great job of keeping you warm (sometimes too warm) but they are also cute. Just when I find myself saying "ok I am done.. No more!" I see another one that is just slightly different than the others that I have. What can I say, I am a sucker?

This one from Asos really was unlike any others that I have. I had been looking for a pretty neutral one that I could wear multiple ways and with multiple things. The pricepoint is pretty great too. Only thing is it sells out, so make sure you snag one before they are sold out again!

While you can wear blanket scarves multiple ways, I just wanted to keep it as simple as possible with this outfit!

Pretty in Pink

I had been on the hunt for the perfect pastel pink sweater for the longest time and couldn't find one. In typical fashion, it is when I am not specifically looking for it that I find it.

I was in, of all places, Target for something other than clothes. Per usual, I have to walk past women's clothing to get to the rest of the store (would you believe me if I said that was the only way in and out?) when I saw it. But in the maternity section. The perfect, pale pink sweater. It was light weight enough, long enough, and cute enough. But it was maternity.

Now I have been known to purchase something maternity when I was not pregnant, so I figured I should at least give it a try. I mean it seems now that maternity clothes don't even look maternity! Into the fitting room I went (I sized down two sizes), and it was a perfect, non maternity looking fit. I had found it! The pink sweater I had been looking for! It isn't online but it is currently in stores!

With all the thinking that I had been doing about said sweater, I knew I wanted to pair it with one of my utility jackets and my nude lace up flats for the perfect feminine, yet casual look.

Favorite Fall Looks

While each year there are new trends that seem to surface, there are those that tend to stick around for a few seasons (or are really just a classic, timeless look).

I'd be lying if I said I didn't follow trends. I kind of feel like there is a difference (just a little bit) between a trend and something being trendy. I don't quite know how to explain it, but I just feel like there is. I will admit that I love trends, but I also enjoy being trendy. Not all trends, or things that are popular are for me, so I don't always follow suit. But if it is something I like, and something that I can find at an affordable price, I am on it!

What makes me the happiest though is when something that I love to wear carries over into the following year! That obviously means I can get even more wear out of it!

I revisited my blog last year to see what I wore that is still on trend for this year!

I love a good fur vest. Something about it completes a whole look and takes it up a knotch. It's a nice alternative to a jacket or even a utility vest (which I am a fan of as well). While you can spend a great deal of money on faux fur vests, this is something I recommend not investing too much money in. Here are a few affordable vest options:

Moto jackets are another trend that is here to stay. Regardless of whether or not you are a leather wearing, motorcycle riding gal, you can wear these. That add just the right amount of edge to your look, whether it be feminine, sporty, or a more tailored look. I love that you can find moto jackets in a variety of styles, colors and even materials. Here are some great moto jackets to add to your wardrobe:

Draped cardigans and buffalo check are two other trends that you can plan on seeing a lot of. Draped cardigans/sweaters are a favorite of mine because they can be worn a little oversized and are just generally cozy! Buffalo check is super cute too and definitely a trend I am thankful to still see in stores. Here are some great options for draped cardigans/sweaters!

You haven't seen the last of ankle boots and I am so thankful for that! I know I have shared how awesome this trend is already this season (you can read all about it here), but I can't stress it enough! At amazing price points, varying styles and colors, you really can't go wrong. They look so great paired with a dress, leggings or even just jeans. It makes them the most perfect, versatile shoe for your closet! Here are some great booties that would get a lot of wear!

Suede In Style

The other week I chatted about a few things that are trendy (or 'on point' as kids say these days. I just don't think I can bring myself to use that phrase. I feel like me saying that is equivalent to me trying to say something is "dope" or whatever. It just doesn't suit me. Anyway...) this fall season. One trend that I failed to mention was suede!

It is making a huge comeback, and while it may not be for everyone, or you may think it isn't for you, there are certainly many ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe without being too over the top with it.

I pulled together a bunch of my favorites from skirts, to shoes to gloves if you don't want anything too bold.

The suede jacket is one of my favorites and can actually be quite versatile! I styled it two different ways a casual daytime look and a dressy option for date night or girls night!

Pumpkin Patch Style

It's that time of year where going to pumpkin patches it the thing to do. You know this time of year is coming soon, but yet it never fails to just show up out of nowhere. Every single year I find myself panicking that we aren't going to get there in time for any pumpkins, or at all, and will have to resort to buying at the grocery store.

I believe this year and last we had to go on a weeknight after school/work (which I actually recommend because its less crowded) because weekends are always busy for us. I realize that makes us sound like we have some crazy, insane social life- we don't. But for some reason, around this time of year we always have random things!

This outfit is anything but groundbreaking, but is perfect for something like pumpkin picking. Like most days, I tend to want to be somewhat stylish and put together, but appropriately dressed for what I am doing!

Style Roundup

A lot of times, there are outfits that I wear but never make it to the blog, which I am sure is not groundbreaking news to you! Outfits I know I definitely want on the blog I wear on the days I know I will be able to get pictures (mainly the weekend, because it's just easier, and I actually wear the outfits that I post on the blog).

But there are times during the week that I am able to document my outfit that I particularly like (which is not every day, believe me) and post to instagram, or just stash in my phone and either forget about it or eventually share with my readers/followers!

So today I am sharing with you a few instagram/camera roll outfits!

Draped Vest

Lately I have been drawn to loose fitting pieces and layers so much. I don't know if it's the weather, the time of year or what, but I can't get enough!

This draped vest/coat was just what I was looking for to add to my closet. The flowy, loose cut is perfect for a casual day to dressy night outfit. I obviously kept it a little more casual with distressed denim and flats, but this can easily be tossed on over a pair of leather leggings, a black tunic and heels!
