LA Here I Come!

Happy Friday, everyone! A happy one indeed! I am en route to LA with my dear friend, Sage. We are headed there for the Simply Stylists conference!

If you recall, I went to the conference in October in NYC with Sage and our friend, Robyn (who we are lucky enough to stay with when we are in LA...thanks, Robyn!).

It was such a great conference, and I learned so much and made some really great connections, so I knew I wanted to make the LA trip possible!

Thankful for friends to share this experience with, thankful for a supportive husband and family, and thankful I am able to do what I love for a living!

Follow along on instagram (@mommyinheels) and facebook this weekend to see all the fun!! See you back here next week!

Cognac + Black

This color combination never gets old to me. It's funny how much I love pairing it together now, when a few years ago I wouldn't dream of coordinating anything brown and black together.

I have had this particular jacket for years. I think it's almost as old as Ella! I hadn't worn in in quite some time and rediscovered it when my husband and I decided it was time to clean out our coat closet. Even though I try to get rid of things I haven't worn in a while, I wanted to keep this!

Might I suggest you do that if you haven't. It was amazing the things we were finding! If you are lucky enough, you will find an old jacket that is still in style like my leather jacket! You will also find jackets that are over 10 years old and make you wonder why you still have it!

Nugget-vention with KFC

“Disclosure: This post was sponsored by KFC through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about KFC Popcorn Nuggets, all opinions are my own.”

If there is one thing I am good at it’s eating. And being busy and all over the place. As much as my husband and I try to meal plan on a weekly basis, there is always something that seems to throw a wrench into our meal plan at least one or two days a week, whether it be a late day at work, a last minute doctor appointment, or, after working all day and taking both of the girls to gymnastics, we just don't feel like cooking the meal we had planned for.

Those are the days where we just say the heck with it and stage a 'Nugget-vention" with ourselves. KFC Popcorn Nuggets are a favorite of ours and is a go-to when we are in a pinch, an instant problem solver. With a picky two year old, KFC Popcorn Nuggets are perfect, because it is something that I know she will eat regardless (and not share with my husband).

I don't feel bad giving KFC Popcorn Nuggets to her either (or eating them myself) because they are 100% white meat (never pressed or formed) and are extra crispy, which is just the way I personally like it. My favorite ones are the tiny, super crispy pieces at the bottom! KFC Popcorn Nuggets are something easy to make a whole meal out of too- just add a couple of sides (like mac and cheese and potato wedges) and you are good to go!

The other week I shared with you all my ‘Mommy’ wardrobe essentials-consider these added to the list. I know, they aren’t something you wear, but to me they are essential! They fit perfectly in my cup holder in my car, which is another bonus-something easy to grab while I am out and about with my youngest! They are great for a snack or a whole meal!

Any time you need to have a “Nugget-vention” the KFC Popcorn Nuggets are perfect! When exactly do you need to stage a Nugget-vention? When…

~your kids are having a last minute play date at your house and you don’t have anything good to feed them. KFC Popcorn Nuggets are way better than the frozen nuggets that have been in the back of your freezer for who knows how long! Nugget-vention!

~you thought you would only be out running errands for an hour, so you don’t have any snacks for your kids. The granola bars at the bottom of your purse are smashed, possibly stale and just won’t cut it. A quick drive through the KFC drive thru is certainly a better option! Nugget-vention!

~you have been lounging at home all Sunday with your family, and realize it’s dinner time and you never took dinner out of the freezer to thaw. Oops! Nugget-vention!

~you haven’t made it to the grocery store and no one in your family can eat sandwiches for another meal! Nugget-vention!

At this point, there is no nugget alternative in the Wattenschaidt house! We love them, can’t get enough of them, and enjoy the fact that they are 100% white meat.

Nothing I love more than a graphic tee and sneakers on the weekend (or any day of the week, really). Super casual, super comfy. Old Navy is one of my favorite places for graphic tees. They have the perfect slouch to them and have a decent variety of colors and prints, too.

Tossing on a lightweight jacket, skinny jeans and sneakers completed the whole look! There was still a little chill in the air when I left the house Sunday morning, so I tossed the scarf on last minute! Although this particular scarf is a little heavier, I love wearing scarves year round. Of course, when the weather is warmer, the scarves tend to be a little lighter weight.

And might I add that my new favorite belt bag was absolutely perfect, too!

Pastel Pattern Mixing

I have always loved pattern mixing-whether it be leopard and stripes or plaid and stripes, I love it! I find mixing the right patterns adds just enough interest to an outfit.

Pastels for spring isn't quite groundbreaking, and neither are florals for that matter, but I couldn't resist mixing the two together for this easy date night look. My parents were in town visiting for the weekend, which meant my husband and I were able to head out for some dinner and errands (yep- those are our crazy date nights!). I typically don't get overly dressed up for our date nights, so this outfit was the perfect mixture of casual and dressy.

Casual Friday

Told you you'd be seeing this jacket again this week. I know, I know, twice in two days but I just can't get enough of it. Despite the fact that this jacket can definitely be dressed up a notch or two, I chose to wear it pretty casually. Something about weekends that makes me just want to be comfortable (without compromising style, of course). That's the beauty of denim jackets, you see. Their versatility is endless!

I am headed out to LA next week for Simply Stylist and plan on packing this for the trip...I think I already have a few outfits planned for the trip that involve this so I'll share with you guys at some point just how dressy I can make it!

Bringing the 80's Back

I think it's about time I eat my words. I have always said that if fashion from the 80's comes back in style I would never be on board. Ever.

That is, until the other week, when I was in Target for envelopes and I laid eyes on this jacket (FYI- they don't keep the envelopes in the women's clothing department). I don't know what it is about it, but I instantly fell in love with it and started thinking of all the different ways I could style it.

It still kind of baffles me how much I love this jacket, because acid wash was one of the things I hated most about 80's fashion. All I think of when I think of acid wash is a pair of jeans my mom had. Not only were they acid wash, but they were pleated and tapered (glad you got rid of those, Mom). Oh the 80's! I also had a pair that was tapered. They had a zipper at the ankle and a hot pink bow that snapped on and off above the zipper. Terrible. Haha!

I don't think you will find me rocking some acid wash jeans any time soon. For now, I am ok with just the jacket. But seriously-how can you not love it?

Everyday Wardrobe Essentials: Part 2

Happy Tuesday! Last week I shared with you all part one of my everyday wardrobe essentials. They were pretty basic, but some of the most versatile and classic pieces that will get worn time and time again.

Today, I will share part two with you! Some of these are more recent adds. Of course, as my style changes and evolves, so do my tastes. For the most part though, I tried to stick to the basics! Enjoy!

A recently added item to my wardrobe essential, I can't live without my casual sneakers! Most of mine are slip on and are just easy to toss on last minute. Being that they come in so many different colors and patterns they are a fun item to add to your wardrobe. Something as simple as floral or metallic sneakers take your outfit up a notch in an effortless way.

I know this is something that I have been talking about a lot over the last few weeks, but I am telling you- get a trench coat! I have worn my so much over the last couple of months. I feel like no matter what I am wearing, no matter how awful I may look, if I toss on my trench coat, oversize sunglasses and lipstick, I look instantly put together.

Another piece I can't live without. This is such an easy addition to any outfit and can easily complete a whole look. The army green color to me, is a neutral. It pairs well with a lot of colors and looks great with prints. I love the easy, comfortable feel of a utility jacket. It dresses up a graphic tee and jeans, which is how I like to wear mine a lot. Utility jackets also look great over dresses-leaves them feeling less formal.

Besides my utility jacket, my denim jacket is probably the next most worn item in the warmer months. Like a utility jacket, it can complete your outfit and is more than just a functional piece of clothing. To me, a denim jacket can be more of an accessory than anything. I love pairing mine with dresses, although they look great with just about anything.

Find the right tote, and it's like Mary Poppins' bag! Never ending and full of surprises. I personally love totes (and large bags of the like) because they hold so much. I don't like to carry a diaper bag, so mine serves as double duty. I like to have a bag that is roomy enough to hold all of my essentials as well as a few diapers, wipes and some snacks. I know a lot of women that use their purses as work bags- another great reason to invest in a tote!

Anything you'd add to the list?
