Working Out in Style

Uggghhhhhh working out. I hate it. Hate.it. And if my girls were reading this right now they would yell at me for using the word hate. But it's true. I hate it, loathe it, despise it.  I am trying to get better (story of my life and this blog), really I am. With the warmer weather finally approaching I have the itch to get out of hibernation mode!

One thing that I find gets me motivated to work out more is cute workout clothing. Don't get me wrong, I definitely am one to wear an oversized t-shirt and yoga pants to workout in, but I do love super cute gear. One of my favorites is Fabletics (you can read a post on how Fabletics works I did last year here). I have noticed though over the last few months Target's workout and athleisure gear has gotten a lot cuter and the selection much more plentiful.

Last week when I was in LA, my friend Robyn and I managed to squeeze in a hike on the very last morning I was there. While it was a bit too foggy for my liking (no chance of seeing any of the amazing views), it was still nice to get some fresh and and be a little active for a change! I decided last minute to have Robyn snap a few pics of me- these pants were just too cute not to share! I love the mesh detail! (they have a cool variety of pants with mesh detail here, herehere, here and here)

If you haven't checked out Target's selection of workout and athleisure you totally should- if anything it will get you motivated to work out (or at least get dressed to work out and then not...but hey at least you will look cute!

California Outfits

I had every intention of documenting what I wore while I was in LA, more than just a few pictures on my phone, but honestly once I got there, and my girlfriends and I got in our groove and started have our own kind of fun, the thought didn't even cross my mind. I did manage to squeeze in one little photo sesh, but the rest of the outfits were just documented with my phone, and I am totally ok with that! Sometimes you just have to take a breather and live.

This was such a comfy travel outfit! Old Navy did a pretty great job with this dress. Enough stretch to it to make it that much more perfect for travel, and can be pretty versatile. While it looks great with sneakers, it can be easily dressed up with a great pair of heels!

I also used Blair Ritchey's new Penn Carry All as my carry on. She just released this bag a little over a month ago when she became a Mommy to her baby boy Penn! While she uses it as a diaper bag, I use it as a work bag and now a carry on! I switched the straps to make it a backpack-it made it so much easier to carry it through the airport!

Our first full day there we went to Santa Barbara for a wine tasting tour. It was absolutely gorgeous there. I had never been so it was such a treat to be able to see so much of the area. We happened to be the only people on the wine tour so it pretty much ended up being a private tour all day!

I wore a jumpsuit from Old Navy for the day- while it was comfortable I probably could have sized down. I originally ordered a medium (because in the past (although I am a large), but I felt like it was a little too snug. Hindsight, I should have kept it because it stretched and loosened up a lot. By a couple of hours in I felt like my large had grown to a super loose XL!

I have a thing for loose fitting, flowy dresses as of late. This Elizabeth & West dress was perfect for a day out and about in LA (which included getting a tattoo!). It was another long day, so I knew I wanted to wear something that wouldn't be uncomfortable by the end of the day! This dress would also look really cute with a pair of booties and a floppy hat!

This dress. Ooohhhh this dress. I loved it, but struggled with it being so open in the front. I tried to add a snap button (if you follow me on snapchat-mommyinheels-you saw that fiasco), I added a safety pin. Tried it all! But it was too cute to not wear, so I gave it a whirl anyway, and loved it! I wore this when we headed out to dinner in Santa Barbara after a day of wine tasting (and a late afternoon nap)!

Another great, loose fitting dress from Elizabeth & West. This dress got me through a long photo shoot day in LA. I kept my accessories to a minimum, but added a cute pair of snakeskin laceup sandals-I thought they added a little bit of interest to the dress, rather than a sporting a plain black pair! The handkerchief hem on this dress is super flattering too- looks great on all body types!

My travel outfit coming home had to be another comfortable one- I knew my day was going to be well over 12 hours of travel! While I am usually not one for traveling in dresses, this dress pretty much felt like I was wearing pants! I went fore the stripes but it also comes in a solid black, too! It would be a great summer, casual, LBD!

Casual Kimono Style

There really isn't much to say about this outfit other than I could live in kimonos. They are seriously the easiest thing to toss on to complete an outfit. They take a plane tee up a notch and make it look like you actually put effort into your look. Once warm weather, kimono season hits, I usually use them as my "aaahhhh I don't know what to wear today!" option. When all else fails, toss one on over your tee and jeans and you've got yourself an outfit!

This Elizabeth & West one is great because it's lightweight enough to wear when the weather creeps up a bit, but would be great for a transition piece as well because of the colors! I have also worn it with ankle booties as well and it looked super cute!

LA Style

So if you follow me on instagram, snapchat or facebook you know I was in LA the past few days with my dear friends Sage and Robyn (who was kind enough to let Sage and I stay with her).

To say we had a great time was a huge understatement. From the moment we touched down in LA we were on the go doing anything and everything from wine tasting in Santa Barabara to doing an amazing photo shoot with the Vega sisters for Robyn's new jewelry line. Whew! Just thinking about it all makes me exhausted all over again!

The Saturday we were there we attended Simply Stylist, which is a great conference for those who are interested in the fashion/beauty industry whether it be as a blogger, stylist, business owner, etc. It is good for me to attend as both a blogger and an entrepreneur.

It tends to be a long day, so I knew I wanted to wear something that was comfortable, and lets be honest-something I wouldn't have to suck it in for. Last year I wore heels and could barely walk by the end of the day because my feet hurt so badly! This was my third Simply Stylist so I knew from attending in the past that what people wear really runs the gamut, from super dressy and matchy down to the shoes and purse, to super boho and comfy.

Honestly, I knew if I wanted to enjoy the whole day I didn't want to wear something that would be super tight or that would require me to wear heels- this Elizabeth & West dress and shoes fit the bill! A dress that I can wear flats with, not have to suck my gut in, and is comfy? Uhhhh yes, please.

I love how versatile it can be-wear it as an off the shoulder dress like I did, or pull the sleeves up over your shoulders and wear it as a flowy tunic top with skinny jeans or distressed denim shorts! Either way you can't go wrong!

Easter with Lip Smackers

When there is a birthday or holiday, I typically do all the purchasing for gifts and whatnot. My husband and I of course chat about what we are going to get each of the girls, but I am usually the one that ends up doing the purchasing- that is a responsibility that has just seemed to work well for me! Plus, any excuse to shop is good in my book!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays to shop for, mainly because I stick to a bunch of little things-I kind of purchase a mish mosh of items to toss in their Easter bag. And when I say toss, I actually mean arrange just the right way so everything is perfectly displayed! It is a holiday that I don't stress over simply because we don't go overboard with gifts-it's actually kind of refreshing!

Like I said, my husband and I usually don’t go overboard for Easter at all- a few little things here and there, a new book, some candy, maybe a little toy, and always lip balmWe have always been a Lip Smacker family. My girls love all of their flavors, especially the ones that have the Disney Princesses on them. Charlotte calls them her “lipsticks” and loves to vigorously apply them on and around her lips! She tends to go overboard but what three year old doesn't?! Haha!

What I love about their selection around Easter is they have the cutest sets to add to your Easter basket in delish flavors like Lemon Tart Surprise, Creamy Chocolate Bunny and Sugar Marshmallow Treat! They.smell.delicious. The Lemon Tart is my fave! Having them come in this adorable, giftable packaging makes it look so much cuter in the basket! Plus, you can’t really beat the price for three lip balms

Greetings from California!

Today's post is short and sweet! I am currently in California for a little bit of business and pleasure! I am in town for the Simply Stylist conference which is happening tomorrow-more on that next week!

I am having a great time with my girls Robyn and Sage...it feels so good to be with them and just be (although I miss my husband and my girls so much). Yesterday we drove to Santa Barbara and did wine tastings all day...heaven!

The picture just doesn't do it justice! So gorgeous!

Our first stop was Firestone Vineyard. (as in the bachelor Andrew Firestone)

Lunch and some more wine tasting at Lincourt Vineyard. So perfect!

Last stop, was Roblar Winery. We had such a great time here. Billy is the guy to ask for if you ever go there! The scenery was just perfect. Sage couldn't have captured a better picture!

On the agenda today? Something that is a bit terrifying to me but I am excited for! Eeeeeek!

Styling My Girls with FabKIds

I remember when I found out I was having girls with both of my pregnancies I was so excited to be able to dress them. And then I had them. And all of my thoughts of the cutest outfits that ever existed went out the window, and entered one daughter so picky with textures that she would live in leggings and tee shirts, and another whose imagination is so wild anything goes with her outfits. (those of you who know me personally can probably guess which daughter is which).

Sometimes, Ella and Charlotte do let me pick out their outfits, but that is rare! I will say I do like it when outfits come as a set. I can get away with them wearing those particular outfits together more, which guarantees that that somewhat match!

Since I have been introduced to FabKids a couple of years ago, we have added several of their outfits to Ella's closet and are just now adding to Charlotte's. The girls love them because they are comfortable, which is particularly important for Ella- she has some sensory issues and doesn't like the way certain things feel. FabKids outfits are always super soft, which she loves.

If you aren't familiar with them, FabKids offers beautifully made, perfectly personal, super stylish and surprisingly well-priced clothes made just for your kids! The way it works is also super easy and convenient, which I know is important for busy moms like me.

How It Works:
  1. Get to know each other. Parents take a fun quiz for your FabKid(s) and get your own FabShop with adorable outfits handpicked for you emailed to you every single month.
  2. Pick or Skip. There is no obligation to buy. Parents are busy! FabKids make it easy to shop what you like, or “skip the month.” There are some months where it's just not in the budget, so that month can be skipped. And you can skip as often or as little as you like!
  3. VIP Status. (Very Impressive Parents!) Their members kids love what they are wearing, while getting the value they so richly deserve.

VIP Perks:
  • Up to 50% Off regular prices
  • Stock-Up Savings: Kids grow-non stop. Shop stock-up packs for the best deal.
  • Exclusive Events: Early access to new, monthly collections, flash sales, exclusive sales and more!

What I personally love is that the outfits are really affordable, the selection is great, and a lot of their items come in a whole outfit. The dresses usually come with leggings, which is perfect for both of my girls- very rarely do they wear a dress without leggings. As girly as they can be they love to play! Some of the outfits even come with shoes, too!

Being able to shop online for their girls clothes is so much more convenient for me sometimes- it's one less errand I have to run, and know what size the girls are (Ella a medium, Charlote and XS) so I can shop in just a few clicks!

When I'm Not Blogging....

There are certain things that I think make an outfit "blog worthy" or not. Does it look put together? Is what I am wearing affordable and accessible to my readers? Is it stylish or is it not anything special at all?

This past Friday I had planned on getting outfit pictures for my blog, like most Fridays (if we can squeeze it in). I was super tired for some reason and just wasn't feeling pictures, feeling my outfit, all of the above. But I knew I needed to get pictures taken because my 'inventory' was lacking and I needed them for my editorial calendar coming up! (I realize this sounds like such a lame problem, but I guess when this is something of a business of mine it's something I worry about!)

Anyway, I got home, changed into comfy but somewhat decent clothes because we had to venture out later to run some errands! My hair was irritating me to high heaven, and I wanted to pull it up into a crazy bun....but blog pictures! I think it was in the midst of my frustration in getting dressed that I thought "F THIS." I am wearing this comfy, not so blog worthy outfit, and I am documenting it. I am an open book on my blog, always honest with my readers, why not be honest and show them my "when I'm not blogging" life?

Not that I am a totally different person. I would say that if you were to meet me in real life I am exactly the way you would think I am based on my blogging. I am pretty much an open book on here. If you follow me on snapchat (mommyinheels) then you know even more what I am like in real life!

Beyond my personality (meaning my style), I would say how I portray myself on here is also pretty much exactly how I am in real life. My shirt may be a bit wrinkled in my outfit post because I actually wore the outfit all day (as opposed to just wearing it for pictures). I may not have lipstick on in a particular post (or 50, including this one) because I applied it in the morning, went about my day and forgot to reapply until after my pictures were taken. Oh well. That's just how I operate!

We had fun running/playing/dancing around the city for a bit before we had to take care of some things-Ryan captured a few pics along the way. Let me tell you, it felt kind of nice to not worry for once if my hair was in place, my makeup looked ok, the lighting was right. It felt so good to just be in my comfy outfit and messy hair!

Outfit Details:
Jacket: Gap (similar) /// Top: Target  /// Leggings: Old Navy (similar) /// Shoes: 6pm /// Bag: Blair Ritchey /// Sunglasses: Nasty Gal

The girls love to dance and 'perform' on this little stage near my store. Sometimes it's fun to join them!

I guess my whole reasoning behind this long, rambling, post is plain a simple-a dose of reality. It's so hard with social media (and I will say if you are a blogger, you relate to this even more than those who don't blog) to not compare yourself to others. I have been doing a lot more of the comparison game and it needs to just stop!

While I love reading other bloggers posts, sometimes I just feel like (some of them, not all)  they're not realistic. They aren't relate-able. At least to me they're not. Honestly, how do you wear four inch heels, full makeup and full hair while running errands all day?!?! How are you that put together all day, every day? Don't you have a day like my Friday night that you just want to toss your hair up, put on comfy clothes and call it a day?

So ladies, stop comparing, toss your hair in a messy bun and live it up in your comfy clothes!
