There are some days I feel like I have it all together, and other days where I feel like I could have used an extra set of hands, eyes, maybe another brain and a few more hours in the day.
Those days are sometimes the days where it’s harder to realize what a good job I am doing as a mom, but they can also be the days where, when my head finally hits the pillow I think “wow I’m like SuperMom or something, right? Did I feed everyone today? Yes. Is everyone still breathing? Yes. SuperMom!!!!”
One of the things I do that makes me feel sort of like I have my life together and what aids me in balancing it all is meal planning. Now before you think I have some elaborate meal planning calendar or anything, my husband and I “meal plan” on the way to church on Sundays! We chat about our schedule for the week on the car ride and go from there! After church we hit up the grocery store to get everything for the week! Nine times out of ten, we forget to check the pantry before we leave to see what we already have, so you bet we come home with something we didn’t need! Haha!
The evenings do go a lot smoother knowing what we are going to have for dinner- it saves the whole back and forth of “what do you want for dinner? I don’t care what do you want?” Most days I get home from work and just jump right in, literally starting dinner in my work clothes. As much as I would like to squeeze in a workout before dinner it doesn’t always happen, so typically you can find me in the kitchen, work clothes on, making dinner! My husband manages the girls while I manage dinner-one of the awesome things that makes us a great team! We certainly wouldn’t be SuperMom and SuperDad without each other! We are each other’s sidekicks for sure!
I also feel more ‘together’ sometimes when I am wearing pantyhose. It’s starting to get a little warmer, so I don’t wear them as often as the cooler months, but there is something about them that makes me feel more polished. The L’Eggs Silken Mist is my favorite- it’s lightweight and breathable, so even on somewhat warmer days I don’t feel hot, they keep things in place, and they have a good stretch to them so I don’t feel too restricted! I also like that when wearing the L’Eggs Silken Mist in Nude, you can’t even tell I am wearing pantyhose-smooths out my legs! They aren’t the type of pantyhose that I feel I have to take off as soon as I get home, which for my family is a good thing because that means I start dinner sooner!
A fridge calendar helps me balance it all too. I know my girls are young, but man are they busy! Between my husband running two businesses and me running mine, there is always something. We use that as our homebase to see what’s for dinner, whether Ella has art or music, or who has an appointment when. It’s a lifesaver sometimes!
Another thing I do so I feel (and act) like my life is together is take care of myself-or at least try to. I have been on a little bit of a weight loss journey over the last few months, and I love the affect it has had on me and also on Ella (Charlotte is still a little too young to get it). Sure my ultimate goal is to lose weight and be a little smaller, but I want to be healthy too. It feels good to make time to work out (mostly) every day.
Some days, it’s not until the girls go to bed, and some days its a shorter workout that I would like, but it’s still a workout, and I get it done! When I feel better about myself, I feel like I am a better mom.
Lastly, I make “me time” for things like reading my book, maybe taking a short nap, or doing my nails. My husband is amazing, so we both value our time with each other and our girls, but also know the importance of taking time for ourselves. A half an hour to myself to read, or do my nails, or even to take a little nap does wonders!
What are things you do to feel balanced? What do you do that makes you feel like a SuperMom?
