Do I Look Like a Mom in This?

Any Mom’s out there ever put on an outfit and thing “damn, I really look like a Mom in this”? Every once in a while, I will put something on and ask Ryan if I look like a Mom.

His response? “I don’t know how to answer that because you are a Mom.” Hahaha, yes indeed I am, but when I am without my girls, for some reason I don’t necessarily want to look  like a Mom, you know what I mean?

While being a Mom to Ella and Charlotte means everything in the world to me, it’s not my only identity. I am sure most mom’s would totally agree with that feeling. It’s not the only thing I want people to think of when they think of me!! So it may seem silly, trivial, even that I don’t want the outfits I wear to scream “I AM A MOM!!” but I am so much more than that-I want what I wear to reflect that!

When I wore this outfit over the weekend, while I loved it, I kind of felt a little Mom-ish in it. Maybe it was the combo of the baseball hat and sneakers? But there was still something about it that I loved! Maybe the rad sneakers? The cool faux leather leggings? It ended being an outfit I loved and would totally wear again and again!

This sweater is so comfortable. I did size up so it would be a little looser fitting and longer on me-I had in my mind that I would wear it with mostly leggings and my skinny jeans!

These leggings have also been a great addition to my closet. While they are an investment piece (it took me months to convince myself to buy them), the quality is really great and I get a ton of wear out of them-they are totally worth the price tag. Plus, they are on sale from time to time from various retaliers-I am always on the lookout to share when they are!

Outfit Details:

I love watching your story. I love this outfit and those leggings rock! But I get the wanting to not look mom thing but it’s because the mom look is something of a cop out in my experience. I work retail and I can’t tell you how many times I hear “I am a mom I dress my kids up and have no time for me” or “I can’t wear that I have a toddler”. It’s called spray and wash ladies and your important too.

I have always believed in taking care of self first because if you don’t how can you take care of your kids and family. A shower takes 5 minutes, tinted chapstick 2 seconds and that pretty floral blouse is just as easily to put on, and washed as needed, as that faded give away t shirt of your husbands- you have to wear something in my book- so make it sporty or feminine or boho.

I think we need to start telling moms that they aren’t selfish for giving themselves something.

Couldn’t agree more! I hear it a lot in my shop, too! Lot’s of gals stay away from things because they are a Mom. If only we all realized that it’s not selfish to make yourself a priority!
